Wilson Botanic Park Berwick

Wilson Botanic Park Berwick

Wilson Botanic Park, Berwick, is a 39-hectare garden that boasts stunning views of the lake, tree-lined walks ways, and lush lawns. Berwick is located 46km southeast of Melbourne CBD. This was the ancestral land of the Bunurong People and the Wurundjeri. From 1859 to 1976, the site was a blue-metal quarry. The quarry site is where the lakes at the Park, Anniversary Lake, and Basalt Lake were created. Most of the Eastern long-necked Turtles are found around Anniversary lake. Wilson Botanic Park was established in 1973 as a Wilson family gift. The word “Park” is still preserved in the title and the name “Botanic” was added in 1980.

There are many paths in the park, some of which are too steep for average walkers. One such walkway leads to Hoo Hoo Lookout Tower from where you can enjoy expansive views of the surrounding suburbs. A unique fossil heritage can also be found in the park. This park is home to fossilised rainforest and eucalyptus plants, as well as leaves and pollens from flowering plants and conifers. It dates back around 22 million years. Scientists have discovered evidence that rainforests existed and endured prolonged droughts.

This venue is highly sought after for wedding ceremonies and wedding photography. You can also hire outdoor spaces at the park to host concerts, theatre productions, and other cultural events. The Casey Council website has more information. The Friends of Wilson Botanic Park is a volunteer group that assists the council with the management and development of the park. Park amenities include an information centre, amphitheatre and BBQ facilities. There are also shelters, bird hides, and shelters.

The park covers 39 hectares, and has more than 1000 plant species. There are both exotics as well as natives. Over 80 species of birds can be found in the park, as well as turtles and frogs as well as lizards, snakes, frogs, and lizards. This is something you should keep in mind when visiting the park.

To relax with your friends and family, you can use the picnic areas and barbecue facilities. The playground is a favorite spot for kids. The park has many walking trails that you can explore. Bird watchers will love our Bird-hide. It’s perched at the Basalt lake’s edge and offers the perfect cover for viewing our native wildlife.

Beautiful gardens, stunning views, and turtles! Three lakes. This walk will take you through the highlights at Wilson Botanic Park. It is basically a valley with two large lakes and two smaller ones. The park is surrounded by a horseshoe-shaped ridgeline. This creates a beautiful ‘hidden valley’ feeling in the area surrounding the lakes.

This classic park walk is flat and easy. There are manicured gardens, impressive landscaping and a stroll along the lakeshore. There is no sign of the city around the park. The walk continues up to the ridge with open parkland that offers views over the surrounding suburbs, and back down to the lake. It’s almost like taking two walks in one area. The hill climb is long enough to get you some exercise, but it’s a short walk.

We haven’t shown everything on this walk. The Park also has a high-lookout and fossil trees. It also houses a variety of plant collections that include more than 1,000 native and exotic species. You will likely see many birds in the Park’s diverse habitats, as well as turtles. Before you travel, make sure to print the brochure and map that are available at the website (link on the page).

The playground, sensory garden, and chance to see the turtles make this a wonderful walk for children. There are many different features that will keep your kids interested. We saw many people walking their dogs, and more children.
