St Peter’s College, Clyde North Campus

St Peter's College, Clyde North Campus

St. Peter’s College began in 1987 as the Cranbourne Campus of St. Francis Xavier, Beaconsfield with 49 students in the Year 7 class. The school added a year level in the subsequent two years, beginning with Year 10 first being offered in 1992. Fr. James Peter McGuigan, who was Parish Priest at St. Agatha’s at the time, was the driving driver behind the founding and growth of the campus.

A Interim Board of Management was created, and it was decided that the college would become independent at the beginning of 1994 and become known as St. Peter’s College. The Principal was Mr. Terry Feely was appointed as the principal and Mr. John Clancy became the first Chairperson of the College Board.

In 1994, St. Peter’s College commenced as an Year 7-10 campus with around 280 students. The expansion and development began with the VCE introduction and the first group of Year 12 was graduated in the year 1996. The life and work that was told by St. Peter greatly contributed to the unique identity and ethos, which is expressed in the form of symbolism, art as well as the liturgical life that is a part of the College. The motto of the school”Be Not Afraid” is a good example of how relationships between Peter and Christ has been a prominent culture-driven driver.

The Curriculum was later diversified to accommodate the growth of the college, with particular growth of areas such as Technology and Science and Visual Arts and languages other than English. This was made possible by the addition of several new facilities and buildings. The month of February, 2003 was the 10th year in operation the College acquired, moved and began the process of restoring it’s Chapel of St. Peter’s in Tooradin. The bequest, which was awe-inspiring and included content was approved and re-dedicated to Fr. Andrew Wise.

In 2009, the first plans were made for the purchase and design of the second campus. That in the same year, Mr. Tim Hogan was appointed Principal. The land was bought from East Cranbourne and building commenced in the year 2010 with the initial class of students starting in the year 2011. Boundaries were set up to allow for an all-campus college as well as the rapid expansion of families to the area. The campuses were referred to as The West Campus and the East Campus. 2012 saw changes in the method by which pastoral groups were created and managed. The year-level, horizontal system was replaced by the vertical House-based system. This marked a new beginning, and methods to enhance the health of students and the development of lasting relationships that were the foundation of the structure. Then, eight Houses were created and then the House-based Cup competition was launched.

At the East Campus a significant building program was initiated to accommodate for the growing needs. The emphasis on providing facilities to meet the needs of the 21 21st century Learner was the primary focus for the development of the new campus. Christopher Black was appointed the Principal in 2017. Christopher Black was appointed to the post of Principal in the year 2017. The next year, St. Peter’s College, as well as all the other schools within the Sale Diocese were placed under the supervision of an entirely new entity and model, The Diocese of Sale Catholic Education Limited. The names of the campuses in 2019 were changed in the name of Cranbourne (formerly Clyde North (formerly the West) Campus and Clyde North (formerly the East) Campus. The new Masterplan to Cranbourne Campus was developed. Cranbourne Campus was established and the cycle of renewal and revitalization was revived. At present, St. Peter’s College currently provides for and assists with the needs of 1974 students as of early 2022.
