Sakyamuni Sambuddha Vihara

Sakyamuni Sambuddha Vihara

The Buddhist Vihara Victoria (BVV) is a non-profit association that aims to assist everyone of any age to be aware of the teachings that are part of Buddhism and to observe how they can be practiced within their lives.

BVV is an ethnically diverse, religious and charitable organization that is committed to the advancement, protection and dissemination of Theravada Buddhism in Australia. The teaching focuses on the fundamentals of mindfulness-based training to assist people in reducing anxiety and stress in their daily life. It also helps them become a community of nature that promote peace.

BVV operates as a complete education and training center that includes the public library as well as meditation facilities for children and adults. Language / Dhamma class is held each Sunday throughout Victorian school term from pre-school to year 9 of Victorian School children who are part of Community Languages Victoria (CLV). The school curriculum consists of Sinhala as a LOTE subject , as well as Buddhism in accordance with the principles that were taught by Lord Buddha and promotes the development of harmony and peace among all living things.

BVV organizes a variety of events that celebrate our heritage and culture with the community at large. It is also a way to educate the young Generation that are of Sri Lankan decent about the Sri Lankan Buddhist culture and values in a more joyful manner. These events will also delight elderly and other people who don’t get to enjoy similar celebrations in their home country.

We also aim to make these events and practices available with the larger Australian community with the intention of providing them a better understanding of Buddhism, Sri Lankan culture and practices, and also help people to see a glimpse of the person we are. They are essential to the practice of the multi-cultural society that we live in, to encourage diversity in our society.
