Oatlands Primary School

Oatlands Primary School

Oatlands Primary School founded in 1996. It serves the residents of Oatlands and the surrounding estates of Narre Warren. The school has a student population of more than 1,200 students. Students, staff as well as parents and the larger community work together to ensure a strong goal to build self-esteem, tolerance, and respect for one another. Through creating a safe comfortable, welcoming and supportive atmosphere, we strive to be proud of our achievements and encourage students’ learning at every opportunity. We aim to increase students’ connections to one another and staff as well as those in the community. The school’s values are Respect, Effort and Resilience, Kindness, and Creativity.

The school is committed to achieving academic excellence across all educational areas with a focus on English and maths. The staff share a responsibility for the education of each student, their personal development and the social development of every child. Digital Technologies remain an ongoing priority at Oatlands Elementary School. The Year 4, 5 and 6 students are part of an Bring Your Own Chromebook (BYOC) program, which allows for the 1:1 program to be implemented. All throughout the school we have several sets of Chromebooks in each classroom (Foundation to year 3). The Chromebook learning program helps students to acquire the knowledge and skills they need to be able to work and live successfully in their online environment and with their local community.

Through the pursuit of excellence in education, Oatlands creates students who are risk-averse and self-directed learners. Our students are caring and socially responsible and can apply their talents to make a positive contribution to society. Every student is motivated to take pride in their school. Leadership is a major focus at Oatlands and numerous opportunities are available the students through their schooling. The Oatlands student leaders are strong and cooperative , and they demonstrate by their example.

Students remain our primary priority, as we work to create a learning environment where they can develop and grow both academically and socially. Small classes as well as straight grades and various social enhancement programs ensure the continuous improvement of every student. Our wellbeing program includes Buddies, The Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships Program and The Cyber Safety Project Program. These programs provide students with life skills that will help them cope with bullying behavior (physical and emotional, as well as cyber). We have a full-time Educational Psychologist who can help and facilitate the learning experience of our students. We have a continuous commitment to and support for the involvement of parents in each student’s education.

Oatlands Primary School offers extracurricular activities for students and the community, including school choir and cooking, hiking as well as cooking, the Sporting Schools Program, keyboard tuition, guitar lessons, the Chess Club and public speaking, and the Kelly the Sports program . We also provide support to those who are part of the Outlaws Basketball Club, Oatlanders Netball Club and Casey Panthers Soccer Club, all of which originated from the school. Oatlands is well-known for its celebrations of ANZAC as well as Remembrance Days. Every student is a part of our school’s annual Dance production.

The Parents and Friends Association actively assists the school through donations and friendship. It is heavily involved in the planning and managing the biannual Fete and Art Show.

The School Council supports the school across a range of areas, such as technology-related initiatives and school facilities as well as offering engaging resources for classrooms to improve student learning. The funds provided include more classrooms with artificial turf, Prep Pirate Ship Playground and an Art/Craft Centre as well as the Classroom Kitchen and the Library as well as a Pre/After school care building a roof above the court for basketball interactive whiteboards, and TVs as well as air conditioning throughout the school.
