Lakeside College

Lakeside College

Lakeside College was established in 2006 in beautiful Lakeside, Pakenham. Lakeside College is a Lutheran school and is part of Lutheran Education Australia. This network includes 83 schools in Australia that serve over 40,000 students. Lakeside College was not the first Lutheran school to be established in the area. In 1836, Harkaway’s German settlers opened a school and church in Hessel Road.

Lutheran schools have a rich history. Martin Luther, a young Catholic monk, was fed up with the church’s abuses in the 16th century. He started a new church movement that sought to proclaim God’s unconditional love for all people. Luther was a passionate Christian and passionate about education. He believed that education is essential in helping to create caring, capable individuals who can contribute to making the world a better place. The Lutheran church, with more than seventy-million members, is the largest Protestant denomination worldwide.

Australia’s long history has included a tradition of Lutheran schooling. Since 1839, Australia has been home to schools run by Lutherans. They arrived in Australia seeking freedom and the opportunity to educate their children. They built schools and churches wherever Lutherans settled in Australia. These simple beginnings have resulted in Lutheran schools being established in every territory and state of Australia, except the ACT.

Although there is a strong emphasis on learning and teaching quality, Lutheran schools offer much more. A Lutheran school is a place where families can feel safe and secure. Lutheran schools recognize each student as unique and have their own needs and gifts.

Each school strives to be a Christian learning community and fosters a culture and an ethos that is rooted in the core values love, justice and compassion.

Lutherans believe that God gave parents and caregivers the primary responsibility for their children’s education. Lutherans offer schools to help parents and caregivers promote the spiritual and educational growth of their children. Each home and school must work together to ensure the wellbeing of students. This is possible through shared values and aims.

Lutheran schools hold themselves accountable to their parents and caregivers for the welfare and progress of their students. It creates structures that allow for constant communication between home and school. It encourages parents to become involved in their children’s education and allows them to take part in school life in all the ways possible.
