Foundation Learning Centre (FLC) is a community-based educational and human services organization located within Narre Warren, and Frankston.
We are a non-profit organization and registered charity which promotes community development through education , and creating connected, resilient, and vibrant communities.
We specialize in supporting people in the community that are least vulnerable, most marginalised and marginalised. Our mission is to create an enjoyable and secure learning environment that encourages and facilitates the individual learning experience of every participant.
We have a rich history and are extremely satisfied with the significant work that we carry out. Our dedicated and experienced team take pride in the huge impact that FLC has on our community.
Foundation Learning Centre (FLC) is a leader of Community Education the Southern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne. FLC is a Learn Local, Non School Secondary Provider, RTO and Neighbourhood House.
Foundation Learning Centre is a non-profit organisation which promotes community growth by educating. The current offerings include preschool programs youth programs from ages 9-12 English literacy and migrant English and migrant english, as well as accredited courses, a variety of specialty and hobby classes and groups, and The Neighbourhood House.
What’s in a Name?
Since its beginning there have been numerous names changed from Narre Warren Neighbours to Narre Neighbours Inc. to Narre Community Learning Centre Inc and its current name of trading, Foundation Learning Centre. The name change was initiated at the beginning of 2019 in order to reflect a change in the culture, with an increased importance placed on education and community-based programs.
In 2021, our name as a legal entity has been changed to Narre Community Learning Centre Inc and changed in 2021, to Foundation Learning Centre Inc to coincide with our business name.
Our History
In November of 1977 , the Narre Warren Drop-In Centre opened with a single dollar in their bank account with 50 ladies were on the books.
Even though it only opened on Tuesdays, the Centre was bustling with activity with a variety of activities, classes events with a daily fee of $1 for of child care.
Through the years, their programs expanded, and in 1981 they realised the need to extend their programs to the larger community and provide an opportunity for the group of people – especially women – to gather for greater opportunities for social interaction in what was at the at the time, a remote suburban area.
