Akoonah Park

Akoonah Park

Akoonah Park covers 11 hectares and is home to a small caravan park as well as a recreation reserve for various community groups. It also features bushland that has Cardinia Creek running through. Parking can be difficult due to a popular weekly market that operates every Sunday between 8.00 AM and 1.30 PM.

Start the walk by following the path left of the playground. Cross the bridge and turn right when you reach the intersection of four paths. This section leads you through a section of bush that is home to bellbirds (Bell Miners), and other parrots. Although the bellbirds are small and difficult to spot, you might occasionally see their olive-green feathers flying among the trees.

Turn right onto the footpath and continue walking until you reach Holm Park Rd. At this point, turn left and enter Akoonah Park. Continue on this path to reach the 4th junction. Turn left and continue until you get close to the footy oval.

There is a small path that runs down to the right just before the oval. It ends at the road. This can get a little wet so be careful. Cross the road and follow the path to the left between the fence and the pond. Continue following the path until it reaches Lakeview Terrace. There is a spot to rest and watch the waterbirds.

Cross Fieldstone Blvd towards the main road. Just past the bus stop is a path that passes through another section of the wetlands. This leads back onto the road, near the shops. At the traffic lights, cross Beaconsfield Emerald Rd. Follow the path past the plaques commemorating the fallen and under the heritage sign. Turn left at the tennis courts and walk alongside Cardinia Creek. Here is the off-leash dog area. There are also poo bags dispensers and bins. Continue following the creek’s path until you reach the end, then turn left. The carpark can be found just ahead.

Although the tracks are generally wide and smooth, there is a lot of rough gravel and footpath, and they are mostly flat. However, it is possible to get muddy after heavy rains.

You can grab a bargain at the Akoonah park market, which is open every Sunday for produce and craft.

The Akoonah Park Committee of Management holds a weekly market in their main buildings at the Reserve’s highway end. There are a variety of products available for sale, including a range of outdoor and undercover stalls.

The use of stalls is free for community organizations. Many people travel from all over the country to Berwick to see our market.

This park is financed mainly by the profits generated from its operation.

Akoonah Park is located near the “Tree Removal Melbourne“.
