OUR STORY
Sergio was also told he had Chronic Myeloid Leukemia in 1996 and that he might only live for another two years. A bone marrow transplant could be used to treat the disease, but even after a transplant, the chance of living a “normal life” was only 30%, and there was a high chance that major organs would stop working. It’s kind of funny that Sergio read about this when he was a chemist.
So, Sergio turned down the transplant and decided to spend the rest of his life trying to help his body heal itself. Sergio made a plan to “return to health” and changed his whole way of life. He started eating raw foods and bought the property in Upper Beaconsfield where the vines are now growing. Sergio’s cancer went into remission two years later, and the experience shaped the way he makes wine today.
Today, Sergio’s accomplishments include being the first and only winemaker for four of the top ten best new wineries listed in the 2007 Wine Companion by James Halliday, Australia’s most famous and well-known wine critic. In the books that follow, all of the wineries that Sergio has worked with and made wine for have received the highest rating possible (5 RED Stars). This puts them all in the top 6% of Australian wineries.
Many critics, both in Australia and around the world, have given Sergio’s wines high marks.
Sergio and his wife, Mary, live on their property in Upper Beaconsfield with their seven children.
