Alkira Secondary Cllege

Alkira Secondary College

In 2009, Casey Central Secondary College was temporarily established on Hillsmeade PS. Alkira Secondary College was established in 2010 on the grounds of Hillsmeade PS. It became Alkira Secondary College when it moved to its current location as one the first PPP (public private partnership) schools under the PVIS model. Our award-winning facilities are modern, flexible and designed for pedagogical purposes. We now have 1165 students and are an active member in the Casey network.

Statement of Purpose

Our school vision to “secure the entitlements for every student” is a reflection of our responsibility to create a place in our community and provide personalised learning in an enjoyable learning environment that supports our shared values of integrity, respect, care, excellence.

Learn More about Us

Under the guidance of Principal Ian McKenzie, our first generation embarked upon a journey that was filled with high expectations and an emphasis on 21C learning. The middle year philosophy of education, the research and lessons of Zbar, Hattie and Marzano have influenced our staff.

SWIS (schools within schools) was created to support the idea of personalized learning, understanding and building positive relationships. As our culture evolved, it was the best way to support staff’s professional development and ensure goal congruence.

The SWIS model includes pastoral care, which is an important aspect. It further supports the idea of securing all students’ entitlements. Pastoral Care focuses on student learning and the idea that the sub-school support team and the PC teacher continue to plan for student improvement.

A well-structured learning environment supports students’ rights to a safe learning environment. Teachers have the right to create and direct such environments. This program is highly successful because it focuses on the students’ work, allows for reflection, and includes a restorative process.

The College supports the highly reliable literacy teaching procedures (HRLTPs) through John Munro Literacy. Later, it introduced the FUN Finding understanding and Numeracy intervention programs.

A personalised program was introduced under the big sky banner in year 9. Students are taught in gender-specific classes in core subjects, and in a variety of electives to support an overall independent learning experience.

In years 10-12, Pathway programs allow students to participate in VCAL and VCE as well as a VET program. The Cranbourne VET cluster is home to the College. It has submitted a bid for a Hospitality trade training centre.

International school status is granted to the College and it welcomes international students every year. Our international network includes sister schools in India, China and Korea. Alkira has teacher professional partnerships with Japan, Korea, and a leadership network for Singapore.

We embrace 21C learning and plan to implement a complete BYOD program. Future teaching protocols will include a more deliberate pedagogical response for BYOD.
