St Andrew’s Berwick Uniting Church in Australia has been in existence for 161 years in the year 2018. The church was founded in 1831 that was originally located in Cranbourne and was originally known as Berwick Presbyterian Church The church has been serving faithfully and actively the Berwick and the surrounding community since its inception. The name “St Andrew’s” was added in 1937 to honor it’s Scottish as well as Irish heritage. It was in 1977 that it joined other Presbyterian churches, as well as Methodist church in Australia as well as many Congregational Churches in Australia to be an integral part of the Uniting Church in Australia. In the present, St Andrew’s Berwick is a happy multi-cultural church for all ages. It has many events and community groups that operate. They offer 9am worship with participatory worship, Kids Church, the 10.30 am traditional service and a monthly Holy Communion on first Sundays and the first Thursday (2 at 2 pm) bi-monthly Bible studies throughout the year, and a separate Friday morning study at Fiddlers Green Lodge Library Gloucester Ave Berwick 9.30 am ).
We meet weekly for Playgroup Thursdays 9.30to 12 noon. Church Choir on Wednesday 7.30 9:00 pm in the church. monthly UCMF gatherings as well as a Friendship and Craft group, as well as a variety of local weekly groups like Alcoholics Anonymous, Gamblers Anonymous and The Ad Lib Drama group etc.
The minister in the place is Rev. Wendy Snook, a former exploration geologist who was a part in the Argyle diamond mine discovery and over her 30 years in ministry, she has served nine congregations in two presbyteries (regional) post in two states in Australia as well as being an early female Defence Force Chaplain in Australia, (RAAF Special Reserve 1991-1996).
Our family and Children’s Worker Mat Pendle is also a Primary School Chaplain who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Theology. She comes from a background in hospitality.
