“The quality of a person’s social life could have an even greater effect on their health than diet and exercise”.

In 1984, a group made up of mothers who were housebound and had small children started an informal playgroup. It was a huge success, so they took over a room at the local church. When the demands got too overwhelming, they sought funding to hire an assistant coordinator. As a result of new regulations on child care, the old changing rooms at Hallam Recreation Reserve Hallam Recreation Reserve were upgraded to Class 2 standards and the centre moved to the new location in the year 1990.

It was when the Mapleson Kindergarten building became vacant in 1997. Our request was approved and we relocated to our new premises in October of that year. Casey city council was extremely accommodating and the building has been enlarged.

The Centre for Community Development is managed by a group comprised of residents who volunteer on a basis.
